Songbird Katherine Jenkins pays tribute to Cumbrian shooting victims at festival

(Daily Mail)

Welsh songbird Katherine Jenkins took to the stage last night in an emotional tribute to the victims of the recent Cumbrian shootings.

The singer opened the three-day Whitehaven Festival last night by dedicating one of her songs to the tragedy which saw 12 people left dead after taxi driver Derrick Bird went on a murderous rampage.

The 29-year-old told the crowd of 2,000: “I know you have been through it … I want to dedicate this song to all those people.”

She then launched into Angels, a track from her new album Believe.

The mezzo-soprano changed her outfit five times during her appearance on stage and laughed and joked with the audience.

Fans responded in kind by singing Happy Birthday to her, in preparation for her 30th on Tuesday.
